How To Make Reels Without Showing Your Face
One of the biggest concerns I hear from therapists when it comes to social media is that they don’t want to show their face in reels.
While there’s always naturally going to be benefits and advantages to doing so, what a lot of therapists don’t realize is that there are SO many ways to create reels that don’t require your face to be in them!
5 Faceless Reel Ideas For Therapists
1) Nature Videos
Nature videos are the perfect background for reels! Try to use a variety of both still videos and videos panning a natural setting.
While it can be fun to have super scenic views for these videos, don’t get caught up in thinking it needs to be a perfect nature video or look just right outside to use it. Yes, maybe for a travel instagram it might be important to have high quality, “wow” you kind of videos. But for you as a therapist, the more real and authentic you keep it the more value you are going to get out of it. People want to find you relatable.
You could film something as simple as the trees or sky, flowers blowing in the wind, a river or pond, your backyard, the rain, your view on a walk, etc.!
On top of your videos, add text such as a quote, reminder / words of encouragement, a paragraph message, or a hook (such as “5 Tips To…”) followed by a prompt to read the caption (where you would put the tips).
TIP: You likely already have some nature videos you could use in your camera roll! Do some digging and create a folder of videos you already have for easy access when you’re creating content.
2) Walking POV
Film a video while walking as if the point of view is your looking down at your feet. You could be on a walk through your neighborhood, on a hike, walking into a store - you name it.
You could also hold a cup of coffee or other drink for an added touch!
Just like with nature videos, these make great background videos that you can then add text on top of.
3) Stirring a Drink
Film the process of stirring a drink for a visually engaging background for your reel. It could be a coffee, a tea, a smoothie, etc.
4) Behind-the-Scenes Office Tour
Provide a direct look into your office space by showcasing elements of your therapy environment. You could use videos panning your office space as well as videos walking into/through your office (using the walking reel POV we just talked about in the last tip!)
If you are a group practice, you could do one big office tour going through all the various offices, or highlight a specific therapist each week or month and showcase their office in a reel then.
5) Use Stock Videos
Using stock videos in the background are a great, low-effort way to create reels that both don’t require your face AND don’t require you to film anything.
Canva has a great stock video library you can use when you have their pro membership.
